from 17:00 to 19:00 in the SNIP Gallery.
About Femia H. Jantzen
Femia comes from a very artistic family. Piano lessons and drawing lessons at home were prevalent in the family of her great-grandfather Johan Lebret. His brother, Frans, was a painter and the founder of the Art Circle in Dordrecht. A sister of Femia’s father was also a portrait painter.
During her childhood, Femia was ‘kind aan huis’, a frequent visitor of the Mauve family. She was very well acquainted with both the son of Anton (Haagsche School) and with Thijs Mauve (Lunteren), the grandson of Anton.
When Femia saw the beautiful birch lanes and other works of ‘Uncle Thijs’ she thaught: I want that too! From 1984 until 1994 Femia participated in numerous art and educational exhibitions.
In 1995 she moved to Curacao where she participated in a number of exhibitions and in the year 2000 she repeated the exhibition ‘Het Andere Amerika’ she curated in 1992 at the Museon in The Hague, at The Curacao Museum.

Femia spent many years as a birder in the breathtaking Mondi’s of Banda Bou, taking pictures of not only birds but other animals as well. She also makes digital art designs and also designs to go with her haikus and poems and has participated in two ‘Tippelzones’ in Curacao with her Haiku’s and poems.
She has won the 2nd selexys prize with her poem emptiness ‘leegte’ and is a loyal member of the Urban Sketchers Curacao for whom we often open our beautiful garden.
Femia uses pencil, gel-pen, markers and ink, and she currently follows her artistic inspirations, such as cubist birds and colorful portraits, inspired by decay, damage, stains, cracks, wet and dirty floors, broken tiles.
She finds joy and pleasure in her work and sees beauty where most of us will not or maybe are unable to see.
There is something very moving and joyous at the same time about her work and what better place for her own Solo Exhibition than at The Curacao Museum to share with you the many faces in her unique and different style and talent.
Femia discovers art everywhere she goes, even in our Museum Walls: She looks much deeper and beyond anything with her creative eye, and observes art in every corner,
even the art in our museum walls and not only ‘FACES’.
There is so much more we want to tell about Femia, her career, her diverse passions, and the person that she is, but, how about you visit the opening of her Solo Exhibition where you willdiscover Femia
and her unique portrayal of human expressions and emotions in her ‘FACES’?
We look forward to welcoming you to this special occasion and the sharing and celebration of Femia’s talent, her art and Femia herself because on June 14th it’s her birthday as well!
