What does it mean to know where we come from, and what do we choose to carry forward?
In Rumbo i Raís, Curaçaoan multidisciplinary artist David Paulus turns his gaze towards Curaçao, its people, its histories, and the cultural memory carried from one generation to the next.
More than one hundred works bring together portraits, mixed media and three-dimensional creations inspired by people whose lives, families, work and presence form part of the fabric of Curaçaoan society.
Historical legacies meet contemporary voices. Personal memory meets collective history. Familiar faces and family connections emerge alongside words, expressions, stories and cultural references that have travelled across generations.
At its heart, Rumbo i Raís asks us to consider where we come from, who helps shape us, and what we leave behind.
Do you recognize someone?
Has David Paulus portrayed you, a member of your family, or someone you know?
There is only one way to find out.
Join us on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 19:00 as we unveil David Paulus’s solo exhibition, Rumbo i Raís, at The Curaçao Museum.
The exhibition is not intended to be an exhaustive representation of everyone who has contributed to Curaçao and its community. No single exhibition could be. The people represented form David Paulus’s artistic selection, shaped by his research, personal perspective, and the individuals and stories that have inspired this body of work.
Their presence opens a wider conversation about roots, identity, memory, inheritance and belonging, and about the many others whose stories remain part of Curaçao’s continuing narrative.
Come and discover the faces, stories, and connections within Rumbo i Raís.
Perhaps you will recognize someone.
Perhaps you will recognize part of yourself.
We look forward to welcoming you!
